WordCamp NYC 2018 Organizing Team

Avis Boone

Avis Boone volunteered for the last WCNYC and she joins the team as an Organizer this year.  She is an Event Photographer and she builds WordPress websites, too. Avis is very active in the NYC WordPress community. Avis is our After Party Wrangler.

Alex Raby

Alex Raby is a member of our CSS Wrangler Team, coming to us as a WordPress freelance developer and brand-new New Yorker! She’s a technical copywriter at the WordPress copywriting agency WpProse and a teacher at The Coding Space. She’s also treading the boards in NYC as an actor with not one but two degrees from the University of Evansville and University of California, Irvine. Alex is so excited to be able to learn and grow with the WordPressNYC team and to give back to this incredible community!

Bud Kraus

Bud has taught web design and WordPress for over 20 years in New York City and for his online students. He is the creator of the WP A To Z Series, a free WordPress training service. He works with small businesses and their sites too. When he’s not chained to a computer, he’s playing guitar and working in his garden but not usually at the same time. Bud is our Speaker Wrangler.

Casey James Perno

Casey is a member of our CSS Wrangler Team with six years experience in building responsive websites. He spent three years at a marketing agency outside DC with a focus on building highly customized WordPress sites, where he published his two WordPress plugins: Casper’s Flyin’ CTA and Casper’s Leave Notice. Now he works outside NYC for the largest party rental provider on the east coast as the sole front end developer for a custom eCommerce application. Casey is happy to be joining the WordCamp NYC team in order to give back to the community that has given so much to him throughout his career.

Christie Chirinos

Christie Chirinos is one of the co-owners and the business development lead at Caldera Labs, a WordPress plugin company best known for its popular contact form plugin, Caldera Forms. Christie started making websites at the age of 14, and before joining Caldera Labs did everything from selling items on eBay to leading website re-launch projects for major nonprofit organizations – on WordPress, of course. Christie received her Master of Business Administration degree from Florida State University, and is currently based out of New York City. Christie is our Marketing Wrangler.

Daniel Schutzsmith

Daniel Schutzsmith is our Social Media Wrangler. He oversaw real time social media coverage of our WordCamp, and oversaw our social media announcements leading up to it.

David Rosenberg

David is a member of our design team. He created our sponsor poster, name tag design, and range of plaques used throughout the venue to identify our session rooms.

Karen Jeanne Radley

Karen Jeanne Radley is a freelance web designer, published author, and Social Media consultant designing and writing copy for websites built on WordPress and other platforms.  With over 18 years experience in media she has worked in a wide variety of industries including publishing, fitness, and beauty, and is a frequent guest lecturer at NYU and other institutions on building brands using websites and Social Media.  A longstanding member of the WordPress community she is thrilled to be a part of the organizing committee of WordCamp NYC 2018.

 

Kera Wright

Kera is our Venue Wrangler. She is an Event Planner and guided our venue and after party selection.

LaToya Smith

LaToya is the CEO of Brass City Media, Inc., a Brooklyn based content marketing agency that specializes in video marketing. She is an award winning journalist and advocate for personal finance and small business education. LaToya joined the WordPress NYC Meetup this year and is our A/V Wrangler.

Laura Ho

Since completing General Assembly’s development immersive Laura has worked as a freelance web developer in NYC.  She is excited to combine her passion for WordPress and event production by being involved with WordCamp NYC as sponsor wrangler. Laura is our Sponsor Wrangler.

Lisa Leid

Lisa Leid is  the co organizer of Women of WordPress NYC. Lisa is a Digital Marketing consultant who manages brands online campaigns. She also is the founder of Techncolor- highlighting women of color in the tech and digital media.

Mariela Anderson

Mariela Z Anderson started working in application and web development 25 years ago. Her formal career began in COBOL and JCL for IBM mainframe applications. She pivoted to Web development and worked with Cold Fusion in the early days of the Web. After taking some time to raise three children she has returned to her love of coding and she revels in complex projects with multiple backend system integrations or simple WordPress brochure sites for small business and solopreneurs. Mariela is our After Party Wrangler.

Meryl Randman

Meryl is our Design Wrangler and runs a web/graphic design agency in NYC. Every project she works on blends her experience in design, marketing, branding and direct response to create a user experience that allows her clients to obtain their goals. AND WordPress is always her platform of choice. Meryl is a longtime WordPress NYC member and is excited have designed the logo and website for this year’s WordCamp.

Mervin Hernandez

Mervin is an Independent Designer Developer in NYC. He works as a headhunter during the day, and has been an active member of the WPNYC Meetup since 2013. He’s served as a volunteer at WordCamps in NYC, Philly, Orlando, and WCUS 2017, and joins the organizing team for WCNYC as the lead for Contributor Day.

Steve Bruner

Steve Bruner is the CEO of SlipFire, New York City based WordPress development studio established in 2007, and a partner in Piklist LLC. where he is creating the most powerful framework available for WordPress. Steve is our Advice Wrangler.

Victor M Ramirez

Victor Ramirez is a member of our CSS Wrangler Team. He began his foray into the interwebs building websites and email newsletters for various high school art projects. He now owns An Abstract Agency – a WordPress focused marketing agency. In his free time, he teaches high school students to code & coaches professionals in New York City.

Winstina Hughes

Winstina Hughes is our Lead Wrangler and she’s extremely proud of what this team is accomplishing.  Winstina started blogging on WordPress.com and holds events as a WPNYC Meetup Co-organizer on how to create online content and  build websites on WordPress.com, and events for Women of WPNYC. Winstina is a Regional Planner for a State Department of Transportation. She’s presented on insights to gather from Google and Jetpack Analytics, and the intersection of WordPress, Planning and e-commerce as a speaker at WordCamp NYC in 2015, WordCamp US in 2015, 2016, and 2017 and WordCamp Austin in 2017.

Yoko Nakano

Yoko Nakano is an Operations Manager at Prime Strategy New York. She volunteered for WordCamp for the first time 2 years ago and met Prime Strategy. She was a part of the open source community in Japan, and she has participated in local meetups since she moved to New York as student. Yoko is our Volunteer Wrangler.
